How Smodge came to be.

Although interested in almost all creative activities, my focus after my school life became ceramics. I enjoyed, and still do enjoy, creating tactile objects that can be held and enjoyed.

After a couple of years of making and selling slab built pots, the arrival of my son turned things upside down. My time for making became almost non-existent, as did the energy to do anything creative! I was also working alongside making, so I felt very stretched. It became apparent to me that a change was needed.

I had always been harbouring a desire to slip cast my work. Time had taught me I am more of a fan of the design process and creating patterns, so this method would suit me well, especially now with different time pressures.

I started playing with different ways of creating and applying imagery, as well as purchasing a couple of stock moulds to try my slip casting ideas.

As well as making, I have a huge passion for sharing the joy of creativity with others. So, starting soon will be some creative sessions and workshops. The first sessions in t he works are those for pre school and primary age children. These sessions will be our ‘Little Smidgets’ and I will be running these alongside a friend of mine.

I am so excited for this chapter to begin, and to have you along for the journey!
